An individual who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual offences against two young males who were between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was held in detention before a additional proceeding on late November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The legal representative continued: "This year his family member had concerns about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They chose" to investigate in the individual's items."
The prosecutor explained items including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepson notified the police about his worries.
She said the man went on to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining the police response of the incident.
The prosecutor explained the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the police once more.
She stated the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five children.
