The European Union could “act quickly and firmly” against what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans issued by the United States on five Europeans involved in fighting digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official stated.
European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’
Officials from Europe such as Emmanuel Macron charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, after the visa restrictions were placed on individuals who have been at the heart of efforts to enact legislation governing US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to pressure US companies to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials supported the French president in criticizing the decision.
